Defect Closure Devices a Randomized Study
- Over an 8-month period (October 2022 – June 2023)
- Prospective, randomized controlled trial evaluating two FDA-approved through-the-scope (TTS) tissue approximation devices—the dual-action tissue clip (DAT) and the X-Tack suture device (TSD)—for closure of large post-endoscopic resection defects.
Key findings:
*Both devices were similarly effective in achieving technical success (DAT: 90.2%, TSD: 85.7%) and complete closure (DAT: 95.1%, TSD: 97.6%)
*DAT was three times faster in approximation time (4.2 min vs. 12.4 min)
*DAT performed better in right-sided colonic lesions and standard-shaped defects, while TSD is more suitable for tight angles or >50% circumference defects particularly in the duodenum.
